"Acting is the most minor of gifts and not a very high-class way to earn a living. After all, Shirley Temple could do it at the age of four."

The Set and My Wig

I walked into the theatre, heard some very loud drilling, and saw the set for the first time. STEEL. Yeah Baby! It looks pretty awesome.

However. My fear of heights isn't very convenient for it. The highest platform is only 8 feet high, which I only have to be on for like 2 seconds. The second highest platform is only 6 feet high. That's less than 1 foot higher than my head. My sister can high jump almost that height. Regardless, the first time I climbed it I suddenly felt that familiar sensation in my knees and my armpits began sweating profusely. The rest of the cast wasn't there yet, except the few that were helping put it together. I gripped the railings and tried not to faint or throw up. The platforms are also see-through, which makes it even harder. I dared myself to start wiggling and jumping up and down and the set shook with my every move. Not that it isn't sturdy! It is VERY sturdy. But it likes to move and sway with the cast :) I climbed down and tried to calm my stomach.

Found out I had 2 fellow cast members that shared my fear. So I made Laura come up with me and we held hands as I climbed up a second time. This time, I climbed to the higher platform and made myself try to let go of the railings. And once again, my stomach plumetted. Too soon for that. Too soon. I stayed up there longer, sweating and getting dizzy. Cast members trying to calm me, "Look I can reach your feet when you're up there" and "Look I can just jump down from here," were coming from all directions. Then here comes Jeremy, like a monkey, climbing and flipping all over the place and just watching him made me want to hurl.

By the end of the night I was able to let go of at least one hand and look somewhat less green. Wednesday, I will have to look super-sexy all over that thing. I think I'll go early and make friends with the set. I'll have to before I have to make love to it.

I ALSO was introduced to "Eoz'shja." That would be pronounced "ASIA." "Eoz'shja-Cinnamon" is the name of my Mimi wig. She is the color of my hair and long and curly and full of body. At first, she wasn't very happy. But then her caretaker, Tommy, eased her in, brushed her, placed her on a fake head and she was MUCH happier and looked more herself. :) We will become great friends. She will be the hair I've always wanted. And I will shake her around so she can be free and luscious.

So now, we only have one rehearsal until tech week and as the realization hit me last night, my frustrations and anxiety and perfectionism got the best of me. Being a perfectionist really isn't a good quality to have. People like me want to have everything perfect the first time and well, that's just not the case- EVER. So, after hyper-ventilating for a few, B was able to bring me back to earth and remind me of what's important.

Wednesday we are not allowed to call for our lines. Studying script tonight. Still need go-go boots with thick heel. Anyone? Anyone?
